Fatal fall on a construction site: a critical reminder of the importance of working at height safety

The CNESST recently released the findings of its investigation into an accident that occurred on May 14, 2025, in Boucherville, which tragically claimed the life of a roofer.

The worker fell more than five meters while performing work on a sloped roof. The investigation highlights several contributing factors, including:

  • insufficient planning of work at height
  • lack of fall protection measures
  • inadequate management of work during hot weather conditions

According to the CNESST, this accident could have been prevented. The use of a harness connected to an anchorage system with a fall arrest connection would have helped prevent the fall. Beyond the findings, this tragedy highlights the importance of a rigorous and structured approach to working at height safety, starting at the planning stage of the work.

At INTO, we firmly believe that safety at height is never an option, but an essential responsibility shared at every level of a construction site.
