  • 1919

    The Duplessis family goes into business with a company called Machine Works Ltd., which focuses on machining operations.

  • 1928 to 1932

    At first, Machine Works Ltd. manufactures machines for postage-stamp cancellation. Later, during the Second World War, it produces high-precision tools and landing gear.

  • 1954

    A building designed to house Machine Works Ltd. is erected on Saint-Laurent Boulevard in Montreal.

  • 1955

    Into inc., an abbreviation for Industrial Tools, is founded by Gérard Duplessis. He entrusts its operation to his son, Claude.

  • 1972

    In response to the Quebec government’s requirement to francisize company names, Into inc. becomes INTO (1972) INC.

  • 1992

    INTO begins building scaffolds and transforming into the company we know today. That same year, the company completes a major project: Montreal’s Biodome.

  • 1996

    Implementation of rail systems to facilitate lamp-replacement operations in Montreal’s metro stations.

  • 2001

    The concept of fall-arrest systems is introduced into the aircraft-manufacturing sector.

    INTO takes on many major projects, including Le Palais de Congrès, La Caisse de Dépôt, Éricsson, Les Ailes de la Mode and La Cité Multimédia to name a few.

  • 2005

    A lift system is installed on the Laviolette Bridge in Trois-Rivières to facilitate access for maintenance teams.

  • 2008

    INTO moves to new premises following the acquisition of a plant in the Saint-Michel district.

  • 2009

    A major change occurrs at INTO as Yannick Lefort, the company’s CEO, becomes its principal shareholder.

  • 2010

    A major project for INTO: the first roof cabin on Complexe Desjardins.

  • 2010

    Longstanding company partners Stéphane Gagnon and Stéphane Joyal come on board.

  • 2011

    A major project for INTO: the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). INTO works on all buildings in the complex, including the Shriners Hospital in 2013.

  • 2013

    A second major hospital project for INTO: the first buildings in the CHUM complex are entrusted to our team.

  • 2014

    Sacha Côté becomes INTO’s fourth shareholder for a period of 5 years.

  • 2017

    INTO is selected to carry out the new Outremont campus for the Université de Montréal,  a key project for the city.

  • 2017

    INTO launches its new brand image and its 2.0 site.

  • 2019

    This is a special year since we’re celebrating our centennial! Machine Works, which was founded by the Duplessis family, evolved over the years thanks to the vision of the company’s successive leaders, who have passed on the torch from one generation to the next.
